On Monday, the activities of the Arab Universities Union annual conference began in Baghdad. This coincided with the first meeting of the Executive Office of the Arab Universities Union, held at the University of Baghdad, to discuss several agenda items in preparation for the general conference, marking the organization's 60th anniversary.
The Secretary-General of the Arab Universities Union, Amr Ezzat Salama, confirmed that "Iraq is one of the founding member states of the Union, and the attendance of Arab university presidents at the conference held in the capital Baghdad for the first time encourages further integration among Arab educational institutions." Salama expressed his "happiness at hosting the Executive Council and the general conference at the University of Baghdad," revealing that there have been thirty requests from Arab universities to join the Union.
For his part, the President of the University of Baghdad, Bahaa Ibrahim Insaf, welcomed "the hosting of the Executive Office of the Union and the general conference, which will provide a positive atmosphere for solidarity and scientific and academic cooperation between Iraqi universities and their Arab counterparts." He affirmed that "Iraq is progressing in building all governmental fields and is working to stimulate scientific research among students and researchers," noting that "the University of Baghdad is a destination for scholars." Insaf called for "cooperation in supporting research and the quality of education in Iraq," mentioning that "the ministry offers about 250 master's programs and 155 doctoral programs, as well as having 6,000 teaching staff at the University of Baghdad."
