Sources from the Greek Ministry of Shipping and the British maritime security company "Ambrey" indicated today, Monday, that a cargo ship owned by the United States and flying the Greek flag reported two missile attacks today in the Gulf of Aden and requested military assistance. Separately, the British Maritime Trade Operations received a report of an incident that occurred 100 nautical miles east of the Yemeni port of Aden, noting an explosion nearby. Greek Ministry of Shipping sources told Reuters that the vessel "Sea Champion," with a crew of 23, was sailing from Argentina to Aden carrying grain when it came under attack. The sources added that there were two attempts to launch missile attacks, which exploded 10 to 15 meters from the ship, damaging one of the windows. Both Ambrey and the British Maritime Trade Operations confirmed that "the ship and its crew are safe and heading to the nearest port."
