The coach of the Netherlands national football team, Ronald Koeman, stated that "the team needs more calm in handling the ball during the friendly match against Germany tomorrow, Tuesday, in Frankfurt, or else they will face difficulties." This was a warning to his players before the final assessment for his squad selection for the 2024 European Championship.
Koeman told reporters: "I want us to perform better in possession and to reduce wasted opportunities. We suffered from unnecessary ball loss from several players. I didn't know that about them, so it was disappointing."
He added: "It would be foolish to give players like (German midfielder) Toni Kroos the opportunity, as the French team did, because every ball will be passed to the right place."
The Netherlands won 4-0 against Scotland in Amsterdam last Friday, but Koeman was not fully satisfied with the performance, which he considered weak despite the significant result. Unless improvements are made, the Dutch team will put themselves under unnecessary pressure against the German team, which is coming off a brilliant 2-0 victory over France in Lyon in their last match.
