The International Committee of the Red Cross issued a statement today, Wednesday, regarding the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip amid the war being waged by Israel, and emphasized that despite the efforts made by the committee, it remains a drop in the ocean. The committee stated: "In light of these conditions, we would like to inform you about an important part of the humanitarian response of the International Committee of the Red Cross to the humanitarian needs in Gaza." It confirmed that what it provides and does "remains a drop in the ocean of humanitarian needs for the affected population."
It added: "The committee will continue to remind the parties to the conflict of their commitments under international humanitarian law, which includes issues related to the principles of conduct in hostilities (i.e. distinction, proportionality, and precaution), the protection of civilians and their property, movement restrictions, access to support and humanitarian assistance, the prohibition of terrorizing civilians, protecting medical missions, and enabling the International Committee to access all those deprived of their freedom."
It also announced that it has so far managed to provide medical supplies to nine health facilities, sufficient to treat 10,740 patients in the Gaza Strip.
