The disciplinary committee of UK Athletics has suspended long-distance runner Ywasha Zakshiftsky for 12 months on Wednesday for driving a car during a 50-mile race in April, where she finished third. Tracking data from the UK marathon race from Manchester to Liverpool showed that Zakshiftsky, who represented Scotland in the 2014 Commonwealth Games marathon in Glasgow, used a car for a distance of four kilometers in the race.
The 47-year-old runner, who was stripped of her third-place finish, claimed that she informed race officials about being in a car and finished the race "non-competitively." However, the independent disciplinary committee of UK Athletics disagreed with her judgment. They stated, "The claimant received the prize at the end of the race, which she should not have done if she completed the race on a non-competitive basis, and she did not seek to return the prize the week following the race."
