The convoy of Defense Minister Maurice Sleem was subjected to gunfire in the Hazmieh - Basha Bridge area. Photos circulated showing one of the vehicles with bullet marks, which later turned out to be old and not in Lebanon. Security sources confirmed to "We Received" that the security forces, particularly the army intelligence, are conducting an extensive investigation into the matter to determine whether it was an assassination attempt or if the convoy was hit by stray bullets. According to reports, Minister Sleem is safe and in a secure location, as are the accompanying personnel.
The media office of the Minister of National Defense announced that "while the convoy of Minister of National Defense Maurice Sleem was moving from his office at the Ministry of Defense, upon reaching the Basha Bridge area, the vehicle transporting him was shot at on the front left glass. The minister was unharmed, and neither were any of the accompanying military personnel. The military police and security agencies are conducting the necessary investigation and inspecting the vehicle and the incident location, in coordination with the relevant military judiciary."
For his part, the acting interior minister, Bassam Mawlawi, stated that the gunfire directed at the minister's vehicle was most likely a result of stray bullets, "but we await the results of the investigations." Mawlawi pointed out that "security agencies and army intelligence went to the site to confirm the nature of what happened." He added, "In any case, we thank God for the safety of the Minister of Defense and affirm that the security and military agencies and army intelligence are following up on the matter, and they are present at the scene to gather all possible information."
