The number of Americans filing for new unemployment benefits rose more than expected last week amid a gradual decline in the U.S. labor market. The U.S. Department of Labor reported today, Thursday, that the number of initial claims for unemployment benefits increased by nine thousand to a seasonally adjusted level of 221,000 for the week ending March 30.
