Possible Humanitarian Corridor for Gaza via Cyprus

The spokesperson for the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, reported today, Wednesday, that she will travel to Cyprus later this week as the European Union works on opening a potential relief corridor through the Mediterranean island to support the people of Gaza. The spokesperson stated in a press briefing, "Our efforts are focused on ensuring we can provide assistance to the Palestinians... We all hope that this corridor will be opened very soon." A spokesperson for the government in Nicosia mentioned, "Ursula von der Leyen will visit on Friday, along with the Cypriot president, to examine the infrastructure related to some stages of the plan." Cyprus is located about 370 kilometers northwest of Gaza, making it the closest EU member state to the area. There has been an ongoing campaign for several months to establish a sustainable one-way sea route carrying aid directly to the region.
