Algerian Parliament Member Bahja Al-Amali Appointed as Peace and Security Ambassador for the African Parliament

The African Parliament has appointed Algerian Bahja Al-Amali as Africa's Ambassador for Peace and Security. In the appointment letter, African Parliament President Fortune Zivania Charumbira stated, "As a recognized peace leader with an unwavering passion for conflict resolution, we hope you will utilize your role as an African Union ambassador to advocate for peace and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity in Africa broadly, and specifically in the conflict in the Middle East." He added, "In fact, the African Parliament cannot remain silent while the Palestinian people face severe violations of human rights. Therefore, we rely on you to be the voice for those who have no voice in situations where it seems that the power of arms, rather than morals, dictates the fate of individuals." Al-Amali heads the Transport, Communications, Energy, Science, and Technology Committee in the African Parliament, one of the most important permanent committees of this continental body, and she is also a permanent member of the Pan-African Parliament.
