Minister of Environment: Emergency Plan to Compensate for Environmental Destruction by Israel

The Uspeak Association organized its third environmental conference on "Youth Leadership in Addressing Climate Challenges" at its center in Baalbek, under the patronage of Environment Minister Nasser Yassin from the caretaker government. Yassin pointed out that "there are fires occurring in Lebanon, even though we reduced their incidence last year by 90%. We cannot discuss fires without mentioning the environmental destruction carried out by the Israeli army, which is destroying land and trees and adopting a scorched earth policy against homes and villages. As environmentalists, we are very concerned about standing by our people in the south on national, humanitarian, environmental, and dignified living grounds, by working to create national solidarity and within an emergency plan. What is being burned now will be compensated; we will plant 40,000 olive trees and tens of hectares of forest trees as part of a real national effort." He emphasized the need to not treat climate change lightly, as it will affect the poorer areas further from the capital, such as Akkar and Baalbek-Hermel. The ministry is working on a plan in collaboration with associations, youth, and civil defense to adapt to climate change.
