Imams and Friday sermon preachers in the Kurdistan Region condemned the ballistic missile attack carried out by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard on civilian areas in the city of Erbil late Monday to Tuesday. Abdullah Waisi, the preacher of the Friday prayer in the district of "Soran," stated that Islam emphasizes the importance of good neighborliness and that one should not harm their neighbor, not even with an unpleasant smell. He noted that the Quran urges Muslims on the principles of good neighborliness and to avoid harming one another. He added, "We and the Islamic Republic of Iran are neighbors, and we have not harmed our neighbors until now. The good deeds of our neighbors remain in our sights, as the Kurdish nation is a loyal nation." He questioned who gave Iran the right to kill and instill terror in people's hearts and undermine our security and stability.
He continued, "With those missiles mixed with the blood of innocent people, they are falsely claiming that they are agents of Israel and that there is a Mossad headquarters." He asserted that "Islam does not permit the spreading of falsehood in any form." Waisi further wondered, "Is it reasonable for an 11-month-old child to be an agent for Israel? To distort and tear apart their body, and to make false claims against families or a nation?"
For his part, Sheikh Bashir Hadad, the imam and preacher of Jaleel Khayat Mosque in Erbil, described the bombardment that Erbil experienced as terrorist targeting innocent civilians during his Friday sermon. He noted that a committee formed by the Iraqi government visited the areas affected by the attack and confirmed that they were civilian locations. He also stated that the issue of the bombardment was a political settling of scores between major powers, but on lands outside their own countries, including America, Iran, and others, adding that these countries settle their accounts on the land of Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region.
Late Monday to Tuesday, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard launched a fierce bombardment with ballistic missiles targeting civilian areas in the city of Erbil, resulting in more than 10 civilian casualties and injuries. The Revolutionary Guard claimed responsibility for the strikes against Erbil, stating in a statement that they were "in response to the crimes of the Zionist regime against the Islamic Republic, the latest of which resulted in the killing of several leaders of the Guard by Zionist fire targeting a main intelligence headquarters of Mossad in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, which was destroyed with ballistic missiles." The Kurdistan Region Security Council deemed the missile bombardment carried out by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard targeting civilian areas in Erbil as a "blatant violation of the sovereignty of the region and Iraq as a whole."
