Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has decided to remain at the helm of the government "despite the smear campaign being waged against him by the opposition," the latest chapter of which involves an investigation into his wife. The Socialist leader, who has been in power since 2018, stated today: "I will continue at the head of the government." Sánchez, 52, had remained silent since the announcement on Wednesday regarding the opening of a judicial investigation into his wife on suspicion of "corruption" and "abuse of power." Spanish media clarified that "a court in Madrid has initiated preliminary proceedings against Begonia Gómez, the Prime Minister's wife, on charges of abuse of power and corruption, following a complaint to investigate her dubious relationships with several private companies."
