Bou Habib: We Cannot Prevent Hezbollah from Waging War in the South

Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib commented on the possibility of war between Hezbollah and Israel, stating that there is a "fait accompli." He remarked, "We cannot prevent the party from waging war in the south; we are avoiding an internal war and prefer regional war over civil war." He noted that all consecutive governments have acknowledged the resistance through the equation of "the army, the people, and the resistance" in their ministerial statements, indicating that Hezbollah's position often differs from that of the government. He emphasized the government's readiness to negotiate with the Americans.

He said, "I do not see war as imminent, and the comprehensive solution lies in retrieving the Kfarshouba hills and the Shebaa farms and in applying Resolution 1701." He added, "We did not discuss the complete package with Hezbollah, and Israel is an 'occupying country' that wants to seize our lands." Bou Habib dismissed the possibility of Iran entering into a regional war, considering that a war against Lebanon would not be easy for Israel and that it would be regional, with missiles falling on it from all directions.

Regarding the tensions in the Red Sea, Bou Habib observed that the Houthis are playing an international role and that their actions are related to Gaza. He pointed out that Lebanon's position was in line with the Arab stance concerning the American-British strike on Yemen, indicating that the priority should be to prevent the expansion of the war.
