Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea stated in a statement that "the Syrian government sent a letter of protest to Lebanon in recent weeks regarding the towers it has built on its land to monitor its borders and stop the smuggling of drugs, weapons, goods, and prohibited materials. This message aims to suggest that these towers threaten its national security." He noted, "The first point that deserves attention and astonishment is the Syrian government's talk about national security, which is non-existent these days, in light of Iranian militias and the Russian, Turkish, and American armies, among others. What national security is this government talking about? What Syrian sovereignty?"
He added, "All the towers located at the border, which the Syrian government opposes, are in Lebanese territory, and certainly, Lebanon has the right to establish towers to monitor and control the smuggling of prohibited items, weapons, banned materials, individuals, and drugs. Most likely, what disturbed the Syrian regime the most was the monitoring of its drug smuggling, as it has become the most important drug dealer in the region, if not the world. The daily clashes on the Syrian-Jordanian border are clear evidence of this."
He continued, "The Syrian government's request indicates the intentions of the Syrian officials. Despite everything that has happened in Syria, its regime remains hostile and negative towards Lebanon. It is important for all Lebanese people to recognize this matter and for those who still conspire with the Syrian regime to stop their conspiracy with an obsolete regime that contradicts the interests of their country."
