Egyptian authorities managed to control a massive fire that broke out in shops at a tourist village in Port Said, northern Egypt. Authorities received reports of a fire in several shops in Al-Nawras tourist village on the shores of Port Said, and immediately dispatched civil protection and firefighting forces to the scene to extinguish the flames. Initial inspections and information indicated that the cause of the fire was an electrical short circuit, and the rapid winds helped spread the flames quickly, resulting in the burning of a villa, three cafeterias, and several shops, with no reported human casualties.
Authorities deployed dozens of firefighting vehicles to control the flames and prevent them from spreading to nearby tourist resorts, villas, and other shops, while efforts to assess the extent of damages and losses are currently underway. After a report on the incident was filed, authorities decided to investigate the managers of a mall where the electrical short circuit occurred, leading to the fire, to determine their compliance with occupational safety and health regulations.
