Some websites have reported that the developers of the WhatsApp application have started testing a new feature that may be beneficial to many users. According to WABetaInfo, "the new feature will help users share files without the need for an internet connection, meaning that users will be able to send videos and photos to any contact on the app without either their device or the recipient's device being connected to the internet."
The new feature is called "People nearby," and it relies on sending data via Bluetooth networks, similar to the Fast Send feature on Android devices or AirDrop on Apple devices. To benefit from it, the latest beta version of the WhatsApp app must be downloaded, and permissions must be granted for the app to access the files on the device, as well as location and Bluetooth.
Available information indicates that "data transmission via the new feature will be encrypted, and the recipient will not see the sender's phone number to maintain privacy."
