Title: Shami: The Issue of Extending the Governor of Lebanon's Central Bank is Not Under Discussion

The Deputy Prime Minister of the caretaker government, Saada Shami, believes that "the statement from the deputy governors of the Central Bank of Lebanon is consistent with the government's plan, and what they requested was previously demanded by the government." In a media interview, Shami clarified that he reviewed the plan or statement from the deputy governors during the session and not beforehand, noting that "there is a necessity to replace the Sayrafa platform with a modern electronic platform."

He remarked, "I have a comment on the way the issue of the suspension of the Sayrafa platform was raised; this matter should not be discussed in the media. If it happens, it will take place gradually and in an organized manner so that the market is not significantly affected." He emphasized that "the situation is exceptional and requires exceptional efforts," asserting that "the topic of extending the term of the Central Bank governor is not under discussion and not on the Council of Ministers' agenda; if it is brought up, we will address it then."

In a related context, information reported by LBCI indicated that caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati will ask the deputy governors of the Central Bank of Lebanon to postpone their press conference, which they reportedly intend to hold on Tuesday. They are awaiting what Mikati will say to them in order to make an appropriate decision based on that.
