On Friday afternoon, a thick cloud of black smoke covered the atmosphere of the towns of Kfour, Tole, Deir al-Zahrani, Eastern, Haboush, and the city of Nabatieh. This was caused by the burning of large amounts of waste, tires, and hazardous industrial materials in an illegal waste dump in the Tole area at the eastern outskirts of Deir al-Zahrani. The spread of foul odors in the mentioned towns has led to cases of shortness of breath and health issues among many elderly individuals and children. Unknown individuals periodically set fire to the piled-up waste in the area, while the municipalities geographically responsible for the dump have refrained from putting an end to this environmental and health disaster that threatens citizens with cancer-related diseases.
