United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres noted today, Tuesday, that "gradual progress has been made towards avoiding a complete man-made famine in northern Gaza, but there is an urgent need for more effort." Guterres specifically urged Israel to fulfill its commitment to open "two crossing points between Israel and northern Gaza to allow aid to enter Gaza from the Ashdod port and Jordan." He stated that "the main obstacle to the distribution of aid throughout Gaza is the insecurity for relief workers and civilians." He added, "I again call on the Israeli authorities to allow and facilitate safe, rapid, and unhindered access for humanitarian aid and humanitarian workers, including the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), throughout Gaza."
