UN Security Council Issues Decision on Gaddafi's Widow

The UN Security Council's sanctions committee has agreed to remove the name of the late Libyan president Muammar Gaddafi's widow, Safia Farkash, from the travel ban lists. According to the decision issued by the committee, Safia Farkash is no longer subject to travel restrictions based on Resolution 1970 adopted in 2011 regarding Libya. However, the UN committee responsible for enforcing sanctions against Libya clarified that Safia Farkash remains subject to asset freezing measures according to relevant decisions. Consequently, the committee has amended its lists and summaries of reasons for the listings. It is noteworthy that Gaddafi's widow had been included in the Libya sanctions lists since June 2011, based on Resolution 1973, due to her being Muammar Gaddafi's wife since 1970 and her close ties to the former regime in Libya.
