Jordan's King Warns Macron About the Danger of Entering Rafah

Jordan's King Abdullah II received a phone call today, Thursday, from French President Emmanuel Macron, during which they discussed the current developments in the region. King Abdullah emphasized the necessity of intensifying efforts to de-escalate tensions and prevent the widening of the conflict in the area, warning about the dangers of the Israeli attack on Rafah. He stressed the importance of achieving an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, protecting civilians, and increasing the delivery of humanitarian aid to the sector in all possible ways and ensuring its sustainability. The Jordanian monarch also highlighted the importance of finding a political horizon to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, which guarantees the Palestinian people their full legitimate rights. This comes amidst escalating Israeli threats of an impending military campaign in Rafah, which is home to more than 1.2 million displaced Palestinians from various areas of the devastated Gaza Strip. The risk of Israel launching an attack on Rafah is increasing, especially with signs of intensifying Israeli preparations for the offensive, following the deadlock in negotiations aimed at achieving a ceasefire and releasing the Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
