The European Football Association "UEFA" announced on Wednesday that it has "formed a committee of experts in women's health to gain a deeper understanding of anterior cruciate ligament injuries and their occurrence in women's football." The committee has begun preparing a survey to raise awareness about ACL injuries for all members of the women's football community to gather analytical insights into the nature of these injuries. UEFA's Medical Director, Zoran Batiarievic, stated, "Addressing the prevalence of anterior cruciate ligament injuries in women's football is crucial for the well-being of athletes and the advancement of the sport." Several players, including the English duo Leah Williamson and Beth Mead, missed the Women's World Cup earlier this year due to severe injuries. The initiative will be part of a broader awareness campaign regarding ACL injuries, set to launch in the latter half of 2024.
