Egypt is hosting a forum for heads and officials of competition agencies and experts from BRICS member countries today, Wednesday, marking the first such gathering since the country joined the group at the beginning of this year. The forum is set to address global food supply chains, focusing on grain trade, and working to establish new mechanisms to address distortions plaguing the global market and combat anti-competitive practices in this area.
Competition agency officials and academics within BRICS aim to discuss how to implement competition protection laws more actively and comprehensively to help find more sustainable and competitive solutions for regulating global grain trade. The forum will feature several sessions, notably one titled "Global Food Supply Chains and Competition Law," another called "Countries' Initiatives to Enhance Competition in Food Markets: An Overview of Current Developments," and a third on "Innovative Global Approaches to Regulating Competition in the Food Market."
This year, BRICS has seen significant expansion with the inclusion of Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, and the UAE to the existing members, which previously included Russia, Brazil, India, South Africa, and China.
