Rescue of 168 Migrants off the Canary Islands

The Emergency and Security Coordination Center in the Tenerife region announced the rescue of 168 migrants aboard two boats found off the coast of Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands in Spain. According to a statement from the authorities: "Since yesterday, 169 migrants were found aboard two boats off the coast of Tenerife. The rescue service intercepted one of them with 25 people on board and transferred them to the Los Cristianos dock. Another boat carrying 144 migrants reached Playa del Camisón in Arona." According to the service, one passenger from the second boat died, and 18 others were transferred to the hospital. Large groups of migrants regularly attempt to cross the southern borders and islands of Spain.
