The Lebanese Electric Company announced that it has "started implementing the first phase of the national emergency plan to remove violations from the electrical network, in coordination with the security forces. This initially includes inspecting 216 main exits out of a total of 800 across all Lebanese provinces, based on Cabinet Decision No. 3 dated January 18, 2023, and the decisions of the ministerial committee responsible for monitoring the implementation of the national emergency plan for the electricity sector."
In a statement, the company explained that "in this context, the task force for removing violations held preliminary meetings with the relevant officers from the Lebanese Army and the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces regarding the support of the campaign to remove violations from the electrical network, the last of which took place on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at the institution in the presence of the service provider company. An agreement was reached to start the operations of the campaign to remove violations from the electrical network on Monday, March 6, 2023, at 9:00 AM, according to the plan set for this purpose."
The institution thanked the security forces for their "cooperation, as well as the employees of service provider companies and the staff and workers of the Lebanese Electric Company for the effort they are putting in during these difficult living conditions that the country is facing."
It requested that the esteemed citizens "cooperate with the institution to ensure the success of this plan, which aligns with the requirements of donor countries, and is aimed at achieving financial balance for this essential and vital sector, as well as redistributing electricity fairly and noticeably across all Lebanese regions."
The institution confirmed that "based on its Board of Directors Decision No. 484 dated December 20, 2022, it will increase supply hours exclusively for the exits from which violations will be reduced and removed, in coordination and cooperation with the concerned ministerial authorities for this plan."
