Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Elias Bou Saab received the Italian Ambassador to Lebanon, Nicoletta Bombardieri, in his office at the parliament today. Bou Saab began the meeting by questioning whether "the leaders of EU member states are aware of the extent of the crimes committed by Israel against innocent civilians in Gaza and the number of children deliberately killed by the Israeli army? And whether they have seen the images that have brought the world to tears." He requested her to "convey his views through the Italian government to the European Union to act in order to stop the ongoing atrocities in Gaza."
The discussion also addressed the presidential election and the extension of the army commander’s term. Additionally, they touched upon the situation in the south along the blue line and the new discourse regarding Resolution 1701. Bou Saab emphasized that "it is essential for a ceasefire to be established definitively to facilitate discussions about further stability along our southern borders and to give hope to the Lebanese people in general and Southerners in particular, regarding developmental projects being discussed with the American administration on the day political negotiations begin."
