The Middle East Watch and Jewelry Exhibition, currently taking place in the Emirate of Sharjah, showcases an exceptional raw emerald stone classified as the largest in the world. Meet this remarkable stone below.
This stone is named "Amir Kabobo" and is valued at approximately two million dollars, with a weight of 3.9 kilograms. It comes in at 19,000 carats and was extracted from a mine located in Zambia, specifically in the Kabobo area which gave it its name. Emeralds are known as the "jewel of kings" and are associated with fertility and rebirth. It is believed in India that wearing a ring adorned with an emerald on the little finger attracts prosperity.
Zambia is classified as the second largest producer of emeralds in the world, following Colombia. Zambian emeralds are distinguished by their deeper and more saturated color compared to Colombian emeralds and also have a high purity, making them ideal gemstones for jewelry applications.
The Middle East Watch and Jewelry Exhibition is a semi-annual event. The 53rd edition was opened on the last day of January and will run until February 4. The exhibition gathers more than 500 exhibitors across 30,000 square meters, with an expected visitor count exceeding 66,000 from 52 different nationalities. It includes a variety of events, including a jewelry design competition where the winner receives 50 pieces of gold, as well as a dedicated section displaying a large collection of oversized emeralds.
