The caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati participated in the opening ceremony of the "Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change" COP 28, which officially began today in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. During his participation in the conference, Mikati held a series of meetings, including one with the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, where they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to develop them, as well as exchanging views on key topics on the summit agenda.
Mikati also met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to discuss the Israeli attack on Gaza and the situation in Lebanon. The discussions included the importance of commitment to implementing Resolution 1701 and its provisions, the need to halt Israeli aggression in southern Lebanon, and the use of incendiary phosphorus weapons and the resulting losses and damages.
Furthermore, Mikati met with British Foreign Secretary David Cameron, where they discussed Lebanese-British relations and the regional situation. Mikati arrived in the United Arab Emirates to head Lebanon's delegation to the "Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change" COP 28. The Lebanese delegation to the conference includes Environment Minister Nasser Yassin, Energy Minister Walid Fayad, Lebanon's Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Fouad Shehab Dandan, and former Minister and advisor to the Prime Minister Nicolas Nahas. The Prime Minister is scheduled to deliver his speech at the conference tomorrow, Saturday.
