Arab Media Ministers' Council Approves Unified Strategy: What Does It Include?

The Arab Media Ministers' Council, during its 53rd regular session held in the Moroccan capital, Rabat, approved the unified Arab strategy for dealing with international media companies (social media platforms). This strategy was prepared by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan at the request of the Arab Media Ministers' Council.

Additionally, the council approved the formation of an Arab technical team to negotiate with international media companies, chaired by Jordan and including representatives from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Iraq, the Technical Secretariat of the Arab Media Ministers' Council, and the Arab States Broadcasting Union. The team's first meeting will be held in July in Amman to develop a work plan and negotiating mechanism with these companies.

The strategy, which received Arab support in all committees that discussed and reviewed it, includes a strategic paper, a comprehensive vision, and a unified Arab guideline law to regulate social media operations and protect Arab media and the audience, as well as a proposed guideline law to prevent hate speech.

Furthermore, a special committee to establish an executive action plan for the unified Arab media strategy for dealing with international media companies convened at the beginning of the 53rd session of the Arab Media Ministers' Council on Monday, approving the executive mechanism presented in the strategy by Jordan. The committee also agreed to form an Arab working group chaired by Jordan to implement its provisions.
