The Louisville Police Department in Kentucky, USA, announced on Twitter that several people were killed and injured in a shooting incident on Monday in downtown Louisville, near Slugger Field. Officials stated that a man shot and killed four individuals and injured nine others in an attack on a bank in the downtown area. Later, Police Chief Jacqueline Gwynn-Vilarreal informed reporters that officers shot the gunman, who was armed with a rifle. She added that the attacker live-streamed the assault online. The police identified the shooter as Connor Sturgeon, 23, noting that he joined the Old National Bank branch downtown as a full-time employee last year.
Calls for an active aggressor were reported around 8:30 AM in the 300 block E Main at the Old National Bank. A spokesperson for the University of Louisville Hospital stated that nine people injured in the attack were receiving treatment, including two police officers, one of whom is in critical condition. There are also two other critical patients. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) stated that its agents responded to the scene. To assist the ongoing investigation into today’s senseless violence, the FBI created a website to collect tips, images, and videos, urging the public to share information to help find answers.
