The President of the Union of Depositors in Lebanese banks, lawyer Hanaa Al-Bitar, addressed a letter to the Acting Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon, Wassim Mansouri, in which he stated the following: "During our communication and meetings with you, we sensed goodwill, knowledge, understanding, and solidarity with the stolen, oppressed, and humiliated depositors at the doors of schools, pharmacies, and hospitals. Because you have betrayed yourself, your conviction, and your knowledge by issuing Circular 166, which is akin to a beggar's circular, unworthy of honorable, generous depositors and does not align with the glorious image we have of you that we have conveyed to the people. Because you have shown a clear and glaring inability to confront the political and banking corruption system, you have neither been able to lift withdrawals nor cancel the haircuts, nor have you developed a scientific numerical plan to restore the embezzled and stolen funds of the depositors. Furthermore, you have not dared to open files regarding the smuggling and laundering of billions of dollars to European banks."
He added, "Your Excellency, we want you to be Wassim Mansouri, a supporter of justice and the oppressed, who have suffered due to established and documented criminal acts. We want you to be a governor, not a ruled one, free and unbound by the conditions and dictates of a system that has continued to steal and oppress people and depositors... Therefore, we kindly ask you not to be another Riyad, but to be Wassim Mansouri, a supporter of justice, the people, and Lebanon." He concluded, "Resign, Your Excellency the Governor."
