Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated today, Wednesday, that "it is necessary to establish a new security system in Eurasia, against the backdrop of the deterioration of Atlantic European institutions." This was expressed in Lavrov's remarks during a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the "A.A. Gorchakov" Foundation. He continued, "Russia is focusing on the task of forming a new equal and indivisible security framework in Eurasia, which is designed to complement and strengthen the process of forming an organization that embodies the large Eurasian partnership, in light of the complete deterioration of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe as a symbol of Atlantic Europe at the regional level."
Lavrov noted that "the development of this partnership is happening thanks to the joint efforts made by the Eurasian Economic Union, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, and the Commonwealth of Independent States." He added that "strengthening this process will create a solid economic foundation to enhance security issues across the vast Eurasian continent," indicating that actual work began last October to lay the foundations for this system.
