Syrian President Bashar al-Assad met with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, to discuss the "brotherly relations that unite Syria and the UAE, the existing cooperation between them in various fields, and ways to enhance economic and trade relations for the benefit of both countries and their brotherly peoples, as well as developments in regional and international situations."
Assad emphasized that "the relationship between Syria and the UAE is historical, and it is natural for it to return to the depth it has characterized for decades, serving the interests of both countries and peoples, and supporting regional issues and stabilizing the area." He pointed out the "importance of the UAE and the positive role it plays in the Arab region."
The Emirati minister conveyed to President Assad "the greetings of the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the State," and confirmed that "the UAE is keen to enhance cooperation between the two countries, expand its horizons, and continue consultations and coordination with Syria on various issues."
Abdullah bin Zayed stated "his country's support for Syria's stability and sovereignty over all its territory," expressing "the UAE's confidence that the Syrian people can, thanks to their will, restore their country's renaissance, development, and prosperity." Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan arrived in Damascus with an accompanying delegation on Wednesday afternoon.
