The Iraqi Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Municipalities announced today, Wednesday, a new strategy specifically for projects aimed at alleviating traffic congestion. The ministry confirmed the imminent completion of four new projects, including the interior overpass on the Army Canal road.
Ministry spokesperson, Nabil Al-Saffar, stated that "four projects are scheduled to open soon, with the Shalajia Bridge expected to be opened within a month and put into service." He also noted that "the interior overpass on the Army Canal road in the Engineers neighborhood - Palestine Street will soon be operational."
He added that "one project will be opened at least each month," pointing out that there has been improved traffic flow following the opening of the Faik Hassan overpass at the Fine Arts intersection and the Qurtuba overpass.
He emphasized that "the ministry has initiated projects in the most congested traffic areas," mentioning that "other projects will be constructed, particularly in major congested areas, turning them into smaller segments, including the bypass road, the development road, and the suspended train."
He highlighted that "there are procedures and organizational and administrative matters, including the use of cameras and monitoring to prevent closure of the right lane, which will further reduce traffic congestion."
He stated, "As part of the new strategy, a project will be announced upon the opening of another complementary project. For instance, at the Sarafiya intersection, following the opening of the Fine Arts overpass, another complementary project was initiated, which involves constructing a parallel bridge to the Sarafiya Bridge." He confirmed that "the remaining projects will be announced upon the completion of the currently implemented projects."
