A senior U.S. State Department official confirmed that famine poses a significant risk and is "very likely" present in at least some areas of northern Gaza. The official noted that the scarcity of trucks is a major obstacle to delivering more humanitarian aid to the densely populated area under Israeli blockade. In a press statement, he stated, "Famine poses a major threat in the south and central regions but is not present; however, in the north, it poses a risk and is very likely to exist in at least some areas, which explains the urgency with which we must transport goods and food widely to the north."
