UNRWA Announces Start of School Year Except for Sidon Due to

The UNRWA announced in a statement the "start of the school year and the opening of its schools for Palestinian refugee students in Lebanon for the 2023-2024 academic year on October 2." It stated that it "looks forward to this, with the exception of the Yarmouk and Jerusalem schools, where education will begin on October 16 to complete ongoing rehabilitation works." Regarding the Sidon area, and due to the prevailing situation in the Ain al-Hilweh camp, it was decided to "postpone the start of the school year for more than 11,000 students until further notice." It clarified that it "is monitoring the situation and working to secure suitable educational spaces for all students in this area, aiming to start the school year as soon as the situation permits, and we will keep you updated on any developments later."
