Jail Sentence for Husband of Iraqi Parliamentarian Charged with "Embezzlement of Basra Oil"

The Court of Cassation confirmed the sentence against the husband of Zahra Al-Bajari, a member of the House of Representatives from the "Sadiqoon" bloc affiliated with the Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq group, after he was convicted of falsifying documents at the ports. A document issued by the Court of Cassation stated: "Upon review and deliberation, it was found that all the decisions made by the Basra Criminal Court applied the law correctly, having relied on sufficient evidence presented during the investigation and trial. For the reasons stated by the court, its decisions in the case are valid." The Basra Criminal Court had sentenced Zahra Al-Bajari's husband to six years in prison for embezzling funds from the Basra Oil Company.
