The Acting Head of the National Institute for Astronomical Research, Taha Rabah, announced that the stations of the national earthquake monitoring network recorded a strong earthquake today, Friday, according to "Russia Today." He explained that the earthquake was detected at 9:12:47 AM local time in Cairo, with a magnitude of 5.7 on the Richter scale, located 855 kilometers north of Marsa Matruh and south of Greece. Rabah confirmed, in a statement released by the institute on Friday, that reports were received regarding the sensation of the earthquake, and there were no casualties or damage to property. He indicated that the earthquake occurred at a latitude of 37.40 degrees north and a longitude of 21.50 degrees east, at a depth of 25 km. The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center reported that the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.7 on the Richter scale in southern Greece. Additionally, it stated that the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 17 kilometers and 122 kilometers southwest of the Greek city of Patras, which has a population of about 168,000. No information has been reported regarding injuries or damage resulting from the earthquake.
