Haniya: Our People Are Increasingly Attached to Their Land

The head of the political bureau of Hamas, Ismail Haniya, sent a message to "the leaders, symbols, and scholars of the nation on the eve of the blessed month of Ramadan," calling for "effective action on various political, diplomatic, and legal fronts to immediately stop the aggression against our people, especially in Gaza, and to protect the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque," according to a statement issued by Hamas.

Haniya emphasized the "necessity of exerting pressure on the international capitals supporting the occupation in order to force it to put an immediate and unconditional end to this heinous war." He stated in his message that "our people are welcoming Ramadan this year while burdened with pain and hopes, as our people are subjected to the most horrific massacres in the genocidal war on Gaza, which has been documented by human rights organizations and international bodies, especially the International Court of Justice and media outlets directly."

Haniya confirmed the need for "speedy and genuine relief for our people concerning food, medicine, and shelter, and for the crossings to operate fully to provide all urgent needs and end the siege completely on our people, thus starting a comprehensive reconstruction process." He called for "increased efforts to put the occupation on trial and expose its crimes, and to politically and diplomatically isolate it due to the war crimes and crimes against humanity it is committing in the genocidal massacres on Gaza."

Haniya stressed that "the occupation is the root of all problems and instability in the region, and its continuation contradicts the principles of international law and the United Nations. The achievement of independence and freedom for the Palestinian people is what will address the root of the problem and establish a new and different phase at the regional and global levels."

In conclusion, he said: "We assure you and all free people that our people are increasingly attached to their land and confident in the option of resistance as a legitimate way to end the occupation. They continue to confront all schemes aimed at liquidating the Palestinian cause, regardless of the costs and sacrifices involved. All these brutal crimes will not deter them and their resistance from continuing their path until they attain freedom and independence and establish a fully sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, along with the right of return and self-determination."
