Bodies of 8 Migrants Found on Southern Mexico Beach

The Mexican Attorney General's Office announced the discovery of the bodies of 8 individuals believed to be victims of a migrant boat sinking on the beach of Oaxaca state in southern Mexico. The Attorney General stated that "the victims reportedly encountered an accident while traveling on a boat off the coast of Oaxaca." The statement added, "According to preliminary information, the individuals found may have been involved in a migration case," and it is believed that the victims are "of Asian descent." The beach where the bodies were discovered, Playa Vicente, is located in San Francisco del Mar, along a route frequently used by those attempting to reach the United States. Each year, thousands of undocumented migrants fleeing violence and poverty in their home countries pass through Mexico in an attempt to reach the U.S. border.
