Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev signed a cooperation agreement in the field of cybersecurity during his visit to Myanmar for security consultations. This was reported by the press service of the Russian Security Council, stating: "An agreement was signed between the Russian government and the government of Myanmar regarding cooperation in ensuring international information security to take joint measures to confront cybersecurity threats, with the agreement signed by the Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev."
The agreement stipulates that "both states, Russia and Myanmar, have the sovereign right to determine and pursue public policy regarding the internet, including ensuring the safe and stable functioning of the web." It outlines the main areas of cooperation in information security and the necessary measures to create conditions for such interaction.
Both sides considered the possibilities for combating common threats in the cybersecurity sphere, expressing their concerns "about the risks associated with the use of information technology to undermine the sovereignty and security of states, interfere in their internal affairs, violate the privacy of citizens, and destabilize the internal political, social, and economic situation."
