The White House announced that "CIA Director William Burns visited Cairo at the beginning of the week for serious negotiations regarding the release of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza," noting that the Palestinian movement is currently considering a new proposal. White House spokesperson John Kirby stated that "the United States is taking the negotiations seriously and hopes to reach an agreement for the release of hostages as soon as possible, as it would also lead to a ceasefire of approximately six weeks." He also mentioned that "more than 300 trucks of aid entered Gaza on Sunday, but the White House will continue to pressure Israel to allow more humanitarian supplies to enter the Palestinian territory."
