Major indices on Wall Street opened higher today, Friday, following a weaker-than-expected inflation report that bolstered bets on near-term interest rate cuts, as well as strong earnings results from major banks. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 40.63 points to 37,751.65, an increase of 0.11 percent. The S&P 500 opened up 10.94 points or 0.23 percent to 4,791.18 points, and the Nasdaq Composite gained 33.95 points to 15,004.13 points, also up 0.23 percent.
