Iraq's Minister of Migration and Displacement, Ivan Faik Jabro, summarized today, Thursday, the main encouraging recommendations for the return of displaced persons and the complete closure of their file. She noted that there is no justification for the existence of displacement camps and affirmed the ministry's ability to close them within a month. Jabro stated that "the decisions of Prime Minister Mohamed Shia' Al-Sudani and the recommendations of the High Committee for Displaced Persons Relief emphasized the need to close the displaced persons file," adding that "the file must be completely resolved."
She pointed out that "the ministry has launched several very encouraging recommendations for the return of displaced persons, including a grant of 4 million dinars, in addition to income-generating projects and durable goods valued at approximately 9 million dinars, which will be received by the displaced upon leaving the tent and returning to any area they wish to settle in."
The Minister affirmed that "the federal government is well aware of the suffering of the displaced persons in the camps, which lack all the essentials for a decent living; therefore, there is government support for their stability in any area they wish to live in." She indicated that "the Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Finance to release financial amounts for the demolished houses, exclusively for the returnees currently inside the camps," stating, "This decision is, in itself, a significant achievement."
She observed that "all areas of Iraq are witnessing security stability, so there is no justification for the existence of the camps," asserting that "the ministry has the capability to close the displaced persons file within a month."
