The Baghdad Provincial Council confirmed today, Wednesday, that changing official working hours in the capital has both pros and cons, noting that more time is needed for better evaluation. Council member Ali Al-Mashhadani stated, "The Baghdad Council is closely monitoring the changes on the streets following the alteration of official working hours in the capital. This decision has advantages and disadvantages, and it requires more time for a thorough study and to provide a final opinion on it."
Al-Mashhadani explained that "this change is temporary, not permanent, and its continuation depends on the success of the government's plan to reduce traffic congestion. The positive aspect of this decision is that the early morning hours are now free from the severe congestion that was previously present. The negative aspect is that traffic congestion has now appeared in the afternoon hours, which did not exist before. Therefore, this decision is still under study and monitoring by us and by the relevant central government authorities."
The new work schedule has been implemented since April 14 and will be trialed for three months, during which various governmental departments, ministries, and institutions in Baghdad have been divided into four types of work hours, starting from 7 AM to 10 AM and ending between 2 PM and 6 PM.
