The New York Times reported from two informed sources that the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump recently had a phone call with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The newspaper noted that it is unclear what the two discussed or whether this was their first contact since Trump left office, where he served from 2017 to 2021. Due to a rib injury, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has postponed his travel plans to Saudi Arabia this week to meet with the Crown Prince. Sullivan was scheduled to hold talks with the Crown Prince amid U.S. efforts to make progress toward normalizing relations between Israel and the kingdom. Saudi Arabia was Trump's first foreign destination when he took office in 2017.
