Sisi: Regional and International Wars Impose Significant Challenges on Egypt

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi took the oath of office before the House of Representatives for a new six-year term beginning Wednesday, according to state television. After the Speaker of the Egyptian Parliament opened the session with the decision from the National Elections Authority declaring Sisi the winner of the last presidential election, Sisi read the oath of his third term in front of attendees at the new Parliament headquarters in the New Administrative Capital east of Cairo.

Sisi noted that "the priority in the upcoming presidential term is the protection of Egypt's regional security," pointing out that "Egypt faces surrounding challenges that we have not experienced with this intensity before, and we are working hard to overcome them." He explained that "regional and international wars impose significant challenges on Egypt."

He stated, "We affirm our commitment to Egypt's security and protection while working on balanced foreign relations with all parties." He added, "We will support social safety networks and increase spending on social protection."
