UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tenenti confirmed that "three military observers from the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization and a Lebanese translator were injured this morning while on a foot patrol along the Blue Line, when an explosion occurred near their location. They have now been evacuated for medical treatment." He noted that "the UN Truce Supervision Organization observers support UNIFIL in carrying out its mandate." Tenenti added in a statement that "UNIFIL is investigating the origin of the explosion." He emphasized, "Safety and security must be ensured for UN personnel. All actors under international humanitarian law have a responsibility to ensure the protection of non-combatants, including peacekeeping forces, journalists, medical workers, and civilians. We reiterate our call for all parties to halt the current violent exchange of fire before more people are harmed unnecessarily."
