With Manchester United's slim hopes of continuing in the UEFA Champions League relying on a victory over Bayern Munich tomorrow, Tuesday, the defeat just days ago against Bournemouth does not inspire confidence in the team's ability to do so. However, despite coach Erik Ten Hag's team swinging between poor results, receiving 11 losses in 23 matches across all competitions this season, midfielder Scott McTominay says that the players fully support the beleaguered Dutch manager.
McTominay also acknowledged that this wasn't always the case with some of Ten Hag's predecessors, pointing out that the atmosphere was toxic at times during previous periods. He stated to reporters on Monday, "It is the players' responsibility first and foremost, and they know that very well; it is not just about what happened with some other coaches where the atmosphere was a bit poor at times."
He added, "The players strongly support the coach, and that is exactly the situation, which settles all matters. We also have a fantastic coaching staff." Unconfirmed media reports about divisions in the dressing room led to four media organizations being banned from attending Ten Hag's press conference before the match against Chelsea in the Premier League last week, and the 3-0 loss to Bournemouth did not help in calming the unrest at Old Trafford.
