The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, announced that all major crossings in the Gaza Strip are now closed and must be reopened without delay. He stated, "The Mawasi area is overcrowded with more than 400,000 people and cannot accommodate more, nor is it safer than other areas of Gaza."
